Gene 'Twinkle-Toes' Kelly croons and taps his way into classic icon
status in one of the best-known musicals in history. Unlike other MGM
musicals of the era, this is a self-conscious meta-movie about
movie-making which sees Kelly as a star of the silent screen. When
talkies hit town, he and his stunning co-star - played by the delightful
Jean Hagan - have a hard time adapting. There are wonderful comic
touches from all involved and some magnificent set numbers. Also Cyd
Charisse's astoundingly long legs. Some dance routines, like those
legs, go on and on - but make for fascinating viewing!
