Yesim Ustaoglu's second feature is a powerful drama, filled with
startling, potent imagery. It begins in the urban bustle of Istanbul,
where two men fall in together; when one is killed by the police, the
other takes his body home through the ever-changing Turkish
landscape. The second half of the film, which charts this journey, is
almost wordless but intensely evocative thanks to cinematography by
veteran Kieslowski collaborator Jacek Petrycki. Ustaoglu raises
important questions about ethnicity and identity without making
trite judgements, but the film's final images speak louder than words.
