Alien 3
Originally released: 1992
The third and most troubled of 20th Century Fox's horror sci-fi franchise sees a shaven-headed Ripley (Weaver) stranded on a deserted prison planet, with only the inmate custodians, Dance's sympathetic yet enigmatic doctor and one juicy biomechanical zenomorph to keep things lively. Minuses are re-treading of old ground and incoherent logic. Pluses are David Fincher's beautifully seedy vision and a palpable sense of impending tragedy, giving the film a portent and weight the others lack. Under-rated, but not under-valued.
