Ziad Doueiri's '90% autobiographical' film is about growing up in a war
zone, with the emphasis on growing up. Doueiri pays as much attention to
the politics of adolescent courtship, haircuts and lapel sizes as to
the sectarian conflict that tore his native Lebanon apart in the 1970s.
The resulting movie is an emotional Molotov cocktail, equal parts
Saturday Night Fever, Rumble Fish and Welcome To Sarajevo.
