Woo has had a long and varied career as a director in Hong Kong, gradually
developing his now world-famous super-kinetic, bullet-ballet
style. It blasted off with A Better Tomorrow in 1989, followed by The
Killer, Bullet In The Head, A Better Tomorrow II, culminating with
Hard-boiled, the quintessential Woo and Chow Yun Fat in one swoop. The
premier action moviemaker, steeped in duplicity and fetishizing slow
motion, Woo has now conquered Hollywood with Hard Target, Broken
Arrow, Mission:Impossible 2, and best of all, Face/Off. Leans towards
melodrama and overwrought performance, but is balanced by the
extremity of his shot choices. Slick to the Nth degree...
