Quintessential 1980s blockbuster that combined sci-fi and
self-reflexive humour to potent effect. Michael J Fox was briefly
lifted to film stardom as Marty McFly, the 17-year-old kid swept up in
the time-travelling antics of his manic scientist friend Christopher
Lloyd. Director Zemeckis fills the film with huge amounts of warmth and
energy; you cannot help but care about their outlandish, comic
adventures. From the days when special effects served the story (but
were still glorious), and character and wit stood a chance of survival.
Great fun.
