Lee Marvin
Born: 1924
Chiselled out of pure granite and awash with whisky, Lee Marvin is the ultimate anti-hero. Hard, brooding and gruff, his violent vendetta in Point Blank could not have been portrayed by any other actor. Having served in World War Two for real, Marvin's military roles have an extra resonance and can be particularly harrowing. But let's not forget the wonderfully tin-nosed villain and drunken sop good-guy in cowboy-tastic Cat Balou. This man could turn his huge, paw-like hand to anything. One of cinema's deserved legends.
