As a brash, colourful sequel to John Carpenter's queasy 1981 cult hit
Escape from New York, this re-teams the director with Kurt Russell, on
appealing form as the laconic and mean Snake Plissken. But everything
else about this film is overblown and basically redundant,
particularly its wasted supporting cast (Steve Buscemi, Peter Fonda,
Pam Grier, Michelle Forbes), though the production design has its
moments. Different, and not disastrous, but very far from lovable.
