If you like Chris Morris or Ali G, have a look at this fine biopic of Andy
Kaufman, daddy of them all. As conceived by Forman, and played with
astonishing accuracy by Carrey, Kaufman wasn't so much a comedian as a
subversive social provocateur who was always playing a role. Forman
doesn't try to explain he 'really' was, arguing that even Kaufman
didn't know that. Instead, he offers smart, sophisticated
entertainment, entirely in keeping with the subject's spirit,
complete with an opening sequence that ridicules the conventions of
the biopic - much as Kaufman's many pranks exposed the unspoken taboos
of his own day.
