There's a lot more to Bridges than the greatest head of hair in the
movies. (The Fabulous Baker Boys is basically all about his hair, and
brother Beau's lack of it). No-one's better at a sardonic quip, at
impatience, and a nonchalant amusement. Heights of emotion and shock,
he's less cut out for. But there are films which just couldn't exist
without him: The Fisher King, which needs his cynicism much more
urgently than Robin Williams' ingratiating antics, and The Big
Lebowski, written with him in mind and pulled off with an inarticulate
frustration that's little short of magnificent.
