Based on Stephen King's novella about a car endowed with autokinesis
and a pyschotic personality, this doesn't have very much going for it
except for a really excellent performance by Keith Gordon in the lead.
He makes the geeky teen's transformation and eventual dependence on
his beloved car both convincing and chilling, but with tongue firmly in
cheek. Gordon went on to direct - pretty decently - movies like A
Midnight Clear and Mother Night. Apart from him this is routine horror
gimmickry, below par for both King and director John Carpenter - but it
has its moments.
