A return to form for DiCillo, who wisely sets the action in the place he
knows best - the Big Apple. Modine plays a down-on-his-luck actor who
knows he could be great if he only got a break; Keener is his spiky
girlfriend, tired of waiting around for it to happen; Caulfield his
friend / rival who makes it as a soap star. For all these characters,
authenticity - or its lack - is what it's all about. The comedy's not as
sharp as Living In Oblivion, but DiCillo's reaching for a more humane
tone, and often achieving it, too.
