Jim Jarmusch's former cameraman announced his own unique talent with
Johnny Suede, a should-have-been-huge indie movie with wit and class
to spare. Recognition came with Living In Oblivion, one of the funniest
films of the 1990s, and among the most accurate films about
film-making. After that stunning pair, Box Of Moonlight was a
disappointment; but DiCillo bounced back with the likeable The Real
Blonde. These offbeat tales of modern urban weirdos are unlikely to
draw huge audiences, but for those who enjoy the kind of comedy that is
bounded on all sides by madness, DiCillo is your man.
