After a decade of trying, Spielberg finally produced the kind of
timeless, moving, human film he'd been dreaming of. This elegiac
account of the Holocaust focuses on German industrialist Oskar
Schindler's increasingly selfless protection of his Jewish factory
workers. Neeson as Schindler reveals a poise and restraint becoming to
the role, while Kingsley and Fiennes are superb in support. At 3 hours in
length, but not a moment too many, Spielberg has pared away his usual
affectations, implementing Janucz Kaminski's poetic black and white
photography to gritty, penetrating effect. Unremittingly moving and
superb.
