In 1971, a plane crashed into the Peruvian jungle, killing all but one of
its 92 passengers. Werner Herzog should have been on board to begin
location scouting for Aguirre, Wrath of God, but the flight was
over-booked and he was put on the next one. In this singularly
fascinating documentary, the sole survivor, Julianne Koepcke,
retraces her steps through the jungle in search of help, amid the
scattered fragments of fuselage that still remain. Tied together by
their miraculous escape from death, director and subject attempt to
fathom the workings of fate and coincidence that saved them in
interviews of unpretentious, moving insight.
