The early 1970s. The music's right, the costumes are tight… PT Anderson
knows his stuff. Jack Horner (Reynolds) hires busboy Wahlberg,
renames him Dirk Diggler, and a BIG legend is born. Dirk's sweet nature
attracts mother-figure Amber Waves (Moore), sexy Rollergirl
(Graham) and nervous Scotty (Hoffman). Anderson never flinches from
the dirty business of porn, even as he toys with the glamour. The scene in
which Scotty reveals his attraction to Diggler is a mark of the
confrontational honesty of the movie, as is the deeply moving scene
between Amber and Rollergirl. Brutal but beautiful.
