The Big Lebowski
Originally released: 1998
Hitmen mistake The Dude (Bridges) for his billionaire namesake Lebowski, and pee on his rug. Things go from bad to weird when Lebowski's mistress is kidnapped by nihilists, and he hires The Dude to find her. Not only that, but Lebowski's feminist artist daughter (Moore) wants The Dude's sperm; while he and his bowling buddies (Goodman as a Jewish Vietnam vet, Buscemi as terminal loser Donny) have to play child-molester Jesus (a scarily convincing Turturro). The plot is irresolvable, the dialogue priceless ("Are you afraid of vaginas, Mr. Lebowski?"), the dream sequences hilarious. And it's narrated by a cowboy.
