About best friends and losing them, this audition for a Brat Pack that
never was takes a hike into Stephen King country: that perfect 1960s
American neverland. Four teenage friends hike into the woods to find a
dead body, and their older brothers (including Sutherland as bad-ass
Ace) pursue them. Central to the movie is the relationship between
Gordy (Wheaton), the middle class kid, and Chris (Phoenix), from the
wrong side of the tracks that dominate the movie's imagery.
Conversations revolve around each other's mothers, Pez flavours, and
the mysteries of Disney – "If Mickey's a mouse... then what's
Goofy?" Impossibly innocent, wonderfully quotable nostalgia.
