Wham! This film slaps you around the face and dares you to deride its
nihilistic, millennial doom and gloom machismo. The Narrator
(Norton) cannot sleep and feels disenchanted with life. Then he meets
Tyler Durden (Pitt) who introduces him to some generational home
truths. Together they form Fight Club, an arena for would-be alpha
males to find themselves via pounding the shit out of each other. Pitt
has never been better. Norton is terrific. The film builds to a
histrionic, but pure cinematic finale, with acting, dizzying
camerawork and pounding Dust Brothers soundtrack all in
near-perfect, inventive harmony. Another key film of the 1990s from
Fincher.
