Rosie is an impressionable teenager. She shares a cramped flat with her
young mother who, to Rosie's embarrasment and confusion, pretends to
be her sister, and Michel, her brooding uncle. To escape her
claustrophobic home life, she retreats into an initially innocent
fantasy world. However, the boundaries between imaginary and real
become dangerously blurred as increasing family tensions push her
further into her other life. Toye's debut feature successfully
captures the confusion of adolesence. Unfortunately, the
implausibly depressing combination of circumstances which drive
Rosie to delirium detracts from an otherwise superior portrayal of
teenage trauma.
