A memorable portrayal of the passage from adolesence to adulthood.
Perhan, a naive teenager with telekenetic powers, seeks respect from
his contemporaries and elders. Starved of opportunities to prove
himself in his home community, his quest leads him to relatives in Milan
and, through them, to lucrative participation in the city's criminal
underworld. However, whilst success brings the status he craves, it
also leaves him sadly aware of life's harsh truths. Kusturica's
portrayal of Perhan's growing pains seamlessly blends humour,
melancholy, Gypsy folklore and music. The result is engaging, vibrant
and imbued throughout with an unorthodox lyrical charm.
